Haciendas, Spas & Horseback Riding
people and culture
With its rich agrarian heritage, the countryside surrounding Quito is dotted with country house haciendas. Many of these inns are owned and run by Ecuadorian families, providing guests with incomparable personalised service and attention to detail, while others have been converted into full-service hotels. Some of the haciendas have added spas to their attractions, while you can also find excellent spas making the most of Ecuador’s volcanic hot springs – all highly-trained in the art of pampering. These rural retreats, many located in dairy farming ‘cowboy country’, are ideal for exploring on horseback, with the possibility of linking establishments on tours of several days or weeks.
