The "Teleferiqo" Cable Car
![]()
The ‘Teleferiqo’ cable car carries visitors to dizzying heights 4,000 metres up in the Andes, with fantastic views of snow-capped volcanoes, verdant mountains and the city below.
The cable car is one of Quito’s newest attractions, designed as a fun day out for all ages. The cable car begins its hire-wire act above the city’s modern town, at 3,000 metres (9,000 feet). The ride in cars carrying up to six passengers then takes to the air for a ride 1,000 metres (3,000 feet) above, taking about 10 minutes in all. The Teleferiqo project also includes fun rides, restaurants, souvenir shops and landscaped gardens. The complex often holds regular musical, cultural, children’s and fun events, so check their website for details. Opening times: Monday to Friday from 10am, Saturday and Sunday from 9 am. Monday to Thursday last tickets sold at 7 pm, Friday and Saturday at 10 pm, and Sunday until 8pm. Prices: $4, express $7. Teleriqo vans which give free rides up to the start have stops at the following locations: Rio Coca y 6 Diciembre, Terminal Ecovía; Terminal de Trolebús, Av Amazonas; Quicentro, CCI and El Jardín shopping malls. Group bookings for transport and rides can be arranged on telephone: 02-2252-753 or 099-820-325. For more on the cable car, in Spanish, see www.teleferiqo.com |
