Just north of Quito, the Equator line bisects the country into the northern and southern hemispheres. The location and importance of the line was known to pre-Incan peoples – several ruins in the area testifying to their knowledge. The modern-day monuments meanwhile form a fun and instructive complex, where visitors can stand at exactly 0º latitude and find out more about the intriguing physical properties of life on the line.
